If you already have an existing wallet on the Aleo Blockchain, Leo Wallet provides a process to import it. Whether you're transitioning to a new device, switching between different wallets, or simply reinstalling the application, here’s how to securely import your wallet using your secret recovery phrase.
Import Steps
Step 1: Accessing Import Wallet Feature
Upon launching Leo Wallet, you can access the import feature by clicking on Import Wallet using Seed Phrase.
Step 2: Entering Your Recovery Phrase
The import process starts with your 12-word or 24-word secret recovery phrase:
- Enter your wallet's unique recovery phrase into the input field provided.
- This phrase is critical as it’s the only way to restore access to your funds. Leo Wallet does not store this phrase and cannot help you recover it if lost.
Step 3: Confirm Recovery Phrase
Once you have entered your recovery phrase:
- Double-check for any typos or errors.
- Your recovery phrase must be entered in the exact order it was generated to successfully import your wallet.
- Click "Continue" to proceed.
Step 4: Set a New Password
For security reasons, you will be prompted to create a new password for your wallet:
- Choose a strong, secure password that you haven't used elsewhere.
- Enter the password into the designated field and verify it by entering it again in the confirmation field.
- This password will be used to unlock your wallet on your device.
- It is important to remember that this password will not recover your wallet; only the recovery phrase can do that.
Step 5: Wallet Ready to Use
After setting your password, your wallet will be imported, and you’ll see the Your Wallet is Ready screen. Now you are all set:
- You can begin transacting privately on the Aleo network with your existing wallet.
- Take the opportunity to join the Leo Wallet Discord or follow on Twitter for updates and community engagement.
Security Tips
- Confidentiality: Keep your recovery phrase confidential at all times.
- Verification: Always verify the complete recovery phrase before confirming the import process to avoid any potential issues.
- Password Strength: Ensure your new password is strong and unique to Leo Wallet.
- Backup: If you haven’t backed up your recovery phrase, do so immediately in a secure manner.
By following these steps, you can successfully import your existing wallet into Leo Wallet. You can now enjoy the privacy and security features that Leo Wallet and the Aleo Blockchain have to offer.
